Pipe Rack Anchors

Husky Energy’s SAGD Celtic Project, near Lloydminster SK, required two aboveground
pipelines to be constructed. The pipelines traversed a wetland area, with very weak
organic surficial soils, underlain by very firm clay. The engineering consultants were concerned that the combination of soil types, lateral loads on the foundations, and access would make traditional pile driving relatively expensive for this section of the pipeline. Cyntech’s foundation anchors were used to overcome these difficulties, and reduce costs.

Cyntech Corporation was able to install the foundations quickly and effectively using a single hydraulic excavator. This minimized the right-ofway damage that would be caused by larger, nontracked equipment. Due to thermal stresses in the pipelines, the foundations were designed to resist large horizontal loads, both longitudinally and laterally, and Cyntech was able to design and install “battered” foundation anchors to allow for a more efficient overall design.
